29 Week Pregnancy Update

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a pregnancy update but this week I’m 29 weeks pregnant!  Only 11 weeks until we meet our baby boy.  The last few weeks have been really fun and the baby is moving a lot lately.  I’ve been lucky to have a healthy, easy pregnancy so far (hopefully that lasts!).  My worst symptom has been not being able to sleep very well.  I get pretty bad leg cramps and can’t get comfortable at night.  Sometimes the leg cramps jolt me out of bed because they hurt so bad (has anyone else had this happen to them?).  I’ve been so lucky to be on summer break from work this summer so I can take naps if I need to and have been able to keep exercising.  I can’t believe I’m already in the third trimester; this pregnancy really is flying by so fast.

How far along? 29 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: 18 lbs

Maternity clothes? I haven’t bought a lot of “maternity clothes” but I’ve bought a lot of dresses and skirts that are the same size I wore before with really stretchy fabric.  That way I can wear them after the baby comes too.  The dress I’m wearing in this picture is from Roolee Boutique.

Stretch marks? A few light ones popping up but they aren’t too noticeable.

Best moment this week: Putting the baby’s crib together!  It seems so much more real now that we have a place for him to sleep and the nursery is coming together.

Movement: Tons!  Although he always seems to stop kicking when people want to feel.

Food cravings: I can’t get enough fresh fruit, especially blueberries.  I’ve been really lucky to not crave sugar or sweets during this pregnancy but I always want fruit.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Anything spicy…this week I learned Indian food doesn’t agree with me. A few weeks ago I had food poisoning too, which was awful.  Luckily, I got over it pretty fast.

Have you started to show yet: Yes!  I always bump people when I hug them now.

Gender: Boy!

Labor Signs: I’ve had some cramping but nothing serious.

Belly Button in or out? Still an innie but it’s starting to get pushed out.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy πŸ™‚

Looking forward to: Having fun during the last few weeks of summer break.

*I know I haven’t posted much content on this blog lately, other than pregnancy related things.  I’ve honestly been a little burnt out on blogging and am trying to decide what to do with this blog.  I might just use it as a space to write about my pregnancy, family and mom life after the baby comes. Thanks for being patient with me and following along.

24 Week Pregnancy Update

IMG_5433 IMG_5442

We’ve made it to the 6 month mark!! I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy is flying by.  The last few weeks I’ve been feeling great.  For a while I was having pregnancy induced insomnia and sleeping for about 4 hours a night.  My doctor said it’s my body’s way of preparing for staying up with a baby.  Luckily my body is being nice to me now and I’ve been sleeping through the night.  I can’t believe we’re just a few weeks from the 3rd trimester! Our little man will be here so soon and we can’t wait!

How far along? 24 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: I haven’t weighed myself in a while but I think it’s about 15 lbs

Maternity clothes? I still haven’t bought too many but I really need to soon.  I tried on 3 different outfits for church and none of them fit over my belly!

Stretch marks? A few light ones popping up but they aren’t too noticeable.

Best moment this week: Scott feeling the baby kick for the first time!

Movement: Tons!  He’s especially active at night πŸ™‚

Food cravings: Nothing crazy this week.  Most of my weird cravings have gone away.  I really wish we had shaved ice stands here during the summer though!  I would be all over those.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Nope, I’ve been super lucky to not have any sickness or nausea since week 12.

Have you started to show yet: Yes!  Growing everyday.

Gender: Boy!

Labor Signs: Not yet.

Belly Button in or out? Still an innie but it’s starting to get pushed out.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy πŸ™‚

Looking forward to: Starting my summer break and buying baby things.

San Diego Babymoon

San Diego is a really special place for us.  Scott and I went to San Diego/Oceanside for our honeymoon 5 years ago.  We thought it would be the perfect place for us to spend a week-long “babymoon” before baby arrives.  The weather was beautiful and we were able to fit in so many things we’ve never done before in San Diego.  I was 13 weeks pregnant at the time and just coming out of the nausea stage of pregnancy.  I felt pretty queasy on the drive there but other than that I felt pretty good.

We drove to my favorite city, La Jolla and went to the coves so I could show Scott the sea-lion beaches.  It was a gorgeous day and we saw so many sea lions.  We were able to get within a few feet of a big group of them while they were sleeping.

We also went to Sea World for the first time!  I was pretty against going, since I don’t love the idea of whales and dolphins being locked up, but Scott really wanted to go.  It ended up being a really fun day.  While I still don’t love that the orcas are locked in little swimming pools it was really cool to see so many up close.  My favorite part of the day was the dolphins!  I got to touch one and he kept coming back to me while I was watching (anyone who knows me well knows that I’m obsessed with dolphins).

We also spent a couple of days at Coronado Beach and Belmont Beach.  Belmont Beach has a fun amusement park on the pier.  We rented bikes, ate lots of yummy food and took naps on the beach.  We stayed at an AirBnb rental for this trip so we were able to make picnic lunches most days and eat them together on the beach.  Those types of trips are definitely our style; we love to be laid back on vacation.  sandiegocollage7

We also fit in a day at Balboa park, where we walked through the rose gardens, cactus gardens and science museum.  I can’t wait to take our little man back with us someday.  We also did a whale watching tour.  Sadly, we didn’t get to see any whales but we saw lots of dolphins!  I wanted to jump in the water with them the whole time!

The last few days of our trip we went to Little Italy for some amazing Italian food!  We met a guy at an Italian pizza shop who looked just like Josh Groban with an Italian accent.  We loved “Italian Josh Groban’s” pizza and felt like we were back in Italy.  We also spent lots of nights watching the sunsets together; the sunsets in San Diego are gorgeous!

We had so much fun on our trip together and can’t wait to go back as a family someday.

22 Week Pregnancy Update

I can’t believe how fast my pregnancy seems to be flying by; I’m halfway there already!  Overall my pregnancy has been going really well so far and I can’t complain.  The last few weeks I started having round ligament pain, which was no fun, but I haven’t had too many other bad pregnancy symptoms.  This weekend Scott and I went on a little getaway trip to San Francisco and had so much fun exploring Golden Gate Park and Alcatraz.  San Francisco is a really special city to us because we went there together while we were dating and for our 1 year wedding anniversary.  Since then we’ve made it our tradition to go back every year for Scott’s birthday in February and my birthday in June.  The next time we go we’ll have our little baby with us!!  I can’t wait to take him to my favorite city.  πŸ™‚

How far along? 22 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: 12 lbs
Maternity clothes? I bought a cute maternity swimsuit and a few tops. So far I can still wear my jeans with a belly band holding them up and a lot of my loser tops still fit me.
Stretch marks? I noticed a few starting to pop up on my sides and hips this week.  I’ve been using tons of lotion to prevent them from getting too bad.
Best moment this week: Going to San Francisco with Scott for a little pre-birthday getaway.
Movement: Tons!  He kicks a lot while I’m at work and while I’m falling asleep.
Food cravings: Watermelon and sweet potatoes.  I seriously can’t get enough of either.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Nope, I’ve been super lucky to not have any sickness or nausea since week 12.
Have you started to show yet: Yes!  I finally have a little bump showing.
Gender: Boy!
Labor Signs: Not yet.
Belly Button in or out? Still an innie but it’s starting to get pushed out.
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy πŸ™‚
Looking forward to: Setting up the nursery and buying baby things.

17 Week Pregnancy Update

This week I am 17 weeks along.  So far I’ve been blessed with a pretty easy pregnancy and am feeling great.  It has been an adjustment getting used to my growing belly and adapting my workout routines.  I’ve been able to keep up with boot camp classes 2-3 times a week and make sure to modify the routines when I need to.  I really feel like being active during the first trimester helped with my morning sickness.  Hopefully if I keep exercising my good luck will continue through the next few months. I can’t believe I’m almost half way there!

How far along? 17 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: I’ve gained 5 lbs so far
Maternity clothes? Not yet but my pants are starting to get super tight.  I’ve been using the “rubber band” trick lately to make my pants more comfortable.
Stretch marks? Nope
Best moment this week: Hiring a doula!  I was feeling pretty nervous about natural birth but hiring her put all my fears at ease.  We also signed up for her Bradley Method classes and I’m really excited to start them.
Movement: I think I can feel little flutter movements. πŸ™‚
Food cravings: Cucumbers! Super random, I know. I didn’t like cucumbers before being pregnant but I can’t get enough now.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Nope, I’ve been super lucky to not have any sickness or nausea since week 12.
Have you started to show yet: I feel like this week I finally started to pop but most people say they can’t tell yet.
Gender: Boy!
Labor Signs: Not yet.
Belly Button in or out? Still an innie.
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy but I have my moody moments (especially at work haha)
Looking forward to: Finally being able to feel the baby really move.  Also, finally having a cute pregnant belly instead of just looking like I ate too many tacos.

16 Week Pregnancy Update

When I first got pregnant I thought I would document everything and take pictures of my growing bump every week.  That wasn’t really the case because I was so tired and nauseous the first few months that it was the last thing on my mind.  Now that I’m feeling better I thought I’d start sharing weekly updates on my blog.  Here are a few baby bump pictures I’ve taken so far:

                                                                                 4 Weeks

                                                                                 13 Weeks

                                                                                  16 Weeks

The first trimester I felt tired and had constant nausea all day.  I also developed the eating habits of a 5 year old.  All I wanted to eat was grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly and mac & cheese.  Luckily, as soon as I hit 12 weeks that all went away.  I’m feeling much better now and haven’t had any bad pregnancy symptoms so far during the second trimester.  I found this pregnancy questionnaire online and thought I’d use it to keep weekly updates going:

How far along? 16 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: 4 lbs so far

Maternity clothes? Not yet but I’ve been wearing a lot of loose shirts that I had pre-pregnancy.  My pants are starting to get a little tight too.

Stretch marks? Nope.  I’ve been trying to use lots of lotion to prevent them.

Best moment this week: Planning nursery ideas and boy baby names

Movement: Not yet, I can’t wait for that!

Food cravings: Chips and salsa and hummus with carrots

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not since I hit week 12!  Before that any type of sweet food (like chocolate or ice cream) and any type of seafood made me really sick.
Have you started to show yet: I have a little bump but most people say they can’t tell yet.

Gender: Boy!!

Labor Signs: Not yet

Belly Button in or out? Still in for now

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy πŸ™‚

Looking forward to: Starting to shop for the nursery and buying baby things (we haven’t bought anything yet).

Gender Reveal

3 weeks ago I went to the doctor for my first ultrasound appointment to see our baby!  I casually asked him when we would find out the gender and to my surprise he said, “I can tell what it is right now.  Want to know?!”  I was so tempted to find out right then but I asked him to wait and put the gender in an envelope so we could find out with friends and family later that week.

For the reveal I asked one of my friends to fill up a big balloon with the right color confetti and we took it to the party store to be blown up.  We had a little gender reveal party and popped the balloon with everyone there.  We were so excited to find out we were having a BOY!!!!!  Scott and I weren’t too surprised though because we already had a really strong feeling it was a boy.  Most of my family guessed that it was a boy too!  Here’s a video of the big reveal:

We can’t wait to meet our little boy!  Now it’s time to start thinking baby names.  We have a few that we like but can’t decide.  If anyone has any boy name ideas please share them in the comments.  We would love more ideas!!

Getting Here

It’s been such a long time since I’ve posted on this blog.  The last few times I posted I shared about our struggle with infertility and since then so much has happened in our lives!

After being diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) the doctor put me on a drug called Clomid to help regulate my hormones.  I had really bad side effects from taking it.  I had hot flashes that kept me up all night, unbearable anxiety and panic attacks.  Having never struggled with anxiety or panic attacks before it was a really scary thing to go through.  I really empathize with anyone who suffers from anxiety because it was so hard for me to function during those 2 weeks.  Luckily, the drug worked its way through my system and the panic attacks eventually went away.  After that the doctor gave me another injection of hormones and did a treatment called IUI (intrauterine insemination).  We were hopeful that the treatment would work but the doctors emphasized again and again that the chances of me getting pregnant were about 10-20 percent.  They told us to wait 2 weeks and they would call us to let us know what the results were.  Those 2 weeks were SO long and it was so hard for us to wait (it doesn’t help that I’m not a very patient person).  I finally got the phone call from the doctor’s office with the results while I was at work.  I asked them to leave a message so that Scott and I could find out together when he got home.  My hands were shaking and I had butterflies in my stomach as we listened to the message.  The nurse slowly said “I got your results back and….”.  I instantly filled in the blank with “you’re not pregnant” in my head because I was so used to that result. Instead she said, “You are VERY pregnant!! Congratulations!”   Scott and I didn’t really know how to react.  We filmed our reaction and you can see how stunned we are for the first few minutes.  We played the message again and immediately started hugging and crying.  We couldn’t believe we were finally going to be parents!!!  It was such a special moment I hope I never forget.

We quickly planned ways to announce the happy news to our family.  We decided to tell my family by surprising my mom with baby bibs for her birthday present.  She was really surprised and everyone was emotional.  This baby is already loved by so many people!  We told Scott’s mom and younger siblings over skype and told his brothers while we were visiting in Utah.  Everyone was so excited and can’t wait to meet our little baby.

Here is a video I put together of us finding out the news and announcing it to my family:

We announced the news on Facebook while we were on vacation in San Diego.  We both love the ocean and thought this would be the perfect announcement for us.

We are SO excited about starting a family and can’t wait to meet our little miracle baby!  I’m really behind on blogging but I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant and we’ve already found out the gender!  I’ll post about our gender reveal tomorrow and try to post weekly bump updates after that.

2015 In Review

2015 has been such an amazing year for us and will be a hard one to top.  We kicked off the year with traveling to San Francisco for Scott’s birthday!  In March we went to New York and Italy for our 4 year anniversary.  We thought that would be it for our travels this year but we ended up going to Utah (the day after getting back to Italy!), Sacramento, San Francisco (again), Idaho, Hawaii, Disneyland and Utah (again).  It was a really busy year filled with lots of adventures and lots of jet lag.  On top of all our travels we sold our Mustang convertible and bought a Rav 4!  We spent lots of time with friends and family, went paddle boarding and went to Lake Tahoe.

We’ve decided to call this our bucket list year because we crossed so many things off our bucket lists:
Surf in Waikiki
Swim in a waterfall
Swim with dolphins
Go to Pompeii and hike Mt. Vesuvius
Ride a gondola on the Grand Canal
Go to Times Square

Learn to sail
Go to the basement of the Colosseum
Go to the Roman Forum
Go snorkeling

Here’s a little video of the highlights from 2015!

Infertility Update

Since posting about my struggle with infertility a few months ago I have been amazed by the amount of support from everyone.  Thank you for reaching out to me and helping me to remember I’m not alone.  Your kind thoughts and messages have really helped me through the last few months.

I first wrote about our struggle to get pregnant in September.  Since then I’ve gone to my OB and a fertility specialist to find out what’s wrong.  Last night Scott and I went to a fertility appointment together and found out that I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (or PCOS).  It basically means that I have cysts on my ovaries that prevent me from ovulating and throw my hormones out of whack.  It felt so good to finally get a diagnosis but I have to admit I’m really scared about the future.  I’ll need to go through some painful tests and procedures in the next few weeks to make sure there isn’t anything else preventing me from getting pregnant.  I’ll also need to go on medication to regulate my hormones.  The medication causes nasty side effects and crazy mood swings.

I’ve had a roller coaster of emotions over the last few months.  Having kids is something I’ve always wanted and something Scott and I have talked about since we were dating.  I know Scott is going to be such a great dad and I can’t wait to be a mom.  It’s hard knowing there is something standing in the way of starting a family together.  We have hope for the future though and know that things will work out for us when they’re supposed to. I’ll be posting updates on my blog as I go through treatments and hopefully get closer to getting pregnant.  If you’ve had any experience with PCOS please comment below or message me.  I would love any advice (especially if you’ve found a natural alternative to medications).
